2017 Tony Award Nominations: The Great Comet and Hello, Dolly! Lead the Pack

The nominations for the 2017 Tony Awards were revealed May 2 at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 came out on top with 12 nominations, including Best Musical, Best Original Score for Dave Malloy, and Best Direction of a Musical for Rachel Chavkin, as well as nods for its two leads: Josh Groban and Denée Benton (both in their Broadway debuts).

Close behind with 10 nominations was the revival of Hello, Dolly!, which earned recognition in categories including Best Revival of a Musical and all four performance categories: Bette Midler for Lead Actress, David Hyde Pierce for Lead Actor, Kate Baldwin for Featured Actress, and Gavin Creel for Featured Actor.

Joining The Great Comet in the Best Musical category were Dear Evan Hansen, Come From Away, and Groundhog Day.

As for the plays, Lucas Hnath's A Doll's House, Part 2 received the most nominations with eight, including Best Play and nods for all four performers: Laurie Metcalf, Chris Cooper, Jayne Houdyshell, and Condola Rashad. Three other titles appeared in the Best Play category: Indecent, Oslo, and the Pulitzer Prize-winning Sweat.

The 71st annual Tony Awards will take place June 11 at Radio City Music Hall. Oscar and Tony winner Kevin Spacey will host.
